POSITION TITLE: General Maintenance and Housing Carpenter

CLASSIFICATION: Temporary Full Time

TERM: Approximately 1 year (subject to funding)

POSITON SUMMARY

The General Maintenance and Housing Carpenter is responsible to perform high quality construction and renovations that meet or exceed current building codes, on various facilities and houses of the Lower Kootenay Band. The duties include, but are not limited to the installation of new windows/doors, decks, cabinetry, insulating, foundation repairs, and other carpentry repairs. This position will also be responsible for performing general maintenance functions by carrying out routine maintenance tasks, including minor plumbing, electrical and carpentry repairs. This position will be responsible for safely operating and maintaining and showing others how to safely operate and maintain a variety of light and heavy powered tools and equipment. This position requires the ability to work well with limited supervision and will also be required to lead and mentor other Lower Kootenay Band employees.

REPORTING

This position reports to the Housing Coordinator while working on housing projects and to the Facilities and Operations Manager while working on other projects.

POSITION QUALIFICATION

· Red Seal Carpenter with 5 or more years of experience.

· Knowledge of the BC Building Code and other regulations and requirements applicable to work assignments.

· Be dependable, enthusiastic and possess good work habits.

· Have the ability to function as part of a diverse team and interface with community members.

· Class 5 Drivers License and personal vehicle (required).

· Provide own carpentry tools (required).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Applicants must be competent with all aspects of residential and commercial framed construction.

· Duties could include the removal and installation of roofing, eavestroughs and weeping drainage, siding, framing, drywall, concrete, windows, interior and exterior doors, cabinets, insulation, drywall, decks, stairs, hand rails, fencing, bathroom and kitchen tiling and flooring.

· Duties could also include landscaping, interior and exterior painting and staining and minor electrical and plumbing repairs.

· The successful candidate may need to perform other duties as required.
