Community Meeting – September 8 2016

Our community vision is “a stable, independent, self-governing authority, providing principled leadership to a dynamic community of caring, healthy Members from a secure resource base.”  The Leadership and Staff of Lower Kootenay Band have been working on establishing strong tools for governance that will honour this vision.  Please come out to the community meeting on September 8 and give us your feedback on what you would like to see in the processes that govern our community.

Our community is facing population growth and development pressures.  As a result, our community is undertaking a Land use planning exercise which will provide direction for new development for the next 5-20 years.  The Land Use Plan will help provide direction for where certain land uses will be permitted such as:

  • residential, commercial, recreational facilities, parks, and community facilities;
  • environmental protection areas;
  • infrastructure (such as water, sewer, drainage and roads); and
  • cultural protection and enhancement.

This plan will ensure that the community’s values and quality of life continue to improve as new development occurs.

We are asking you to come on September 8 to view all the maps that have been developed by our Lands Department and provide input on the types of land uses that should be encouraged on our lands over the next 5-20 years.
