The Lower Kootenay Band held an Inauguration Ceremony on Friday, February 1, 2013 at the Prince Charles Theatre to inaugurate two Lower Kootenay Band councillors who were elected in November. Incumbent Mary Basil was re-elected and Robin Louie will serve his first term after returning to Lower Kootenay from 12 years of service in the US Marines. The new councillors were led into the theatre by a cadet bagpiper.
The new councilors were welcomed and joined on stage by Chief Jason Louie, Councilor Anne Jimmie and Councilor Arlene Basil.
The event was MC’ed by Creston Mayor Ron Toyota and was attended by 60 people and delegates. Delegates at the ceremony included Kootenay Columbia MP David Wilks, RCMP Staff Sgt Bob Gollan, RDCK Directors Garry Jackman (Area A), Larry Binks (Area C), and alternate Penny A.P. Anderson (Area B) as well as Blair Weston from Fortis and representatives from the College of the Rockies and Ktunaxa Nation Council.
