Part-time Retail Sales Associate/Floral Design Trainee

Morris Flowers is seeking a responsible and highly motivated individual Retail Sales Associate/Floral Design Trainee for our downtown flower shop. The ideal candidate has previous retail experience, enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, has a creative  flair and a good eye for design.

The sales associate, under the direction of the Flower Shop Manager, will primarily be responsible for greeting customers, discussing merchandise and services required, operating the POS system, and delivering orders. We are seeking someone interested in working with us long term to learn floral design. Hand-on training as well as formal training in floral design will be provided, some travel may be required.

Job Duties

  • Engage and interact with customers to create a positive shopping experience
  • Answer telephone and electronic inquiries and relay telephone calls and messages
  • Greet customers and discuss type, quality, and quantity of merchandise or services required
  • Maintain a high level of product and service knowledge
  • Replace used stock, rotate current stock, and ensure satisfactory inventory levels
  • Participate in merchandising and promotional activities
  • Ensure store conditions are consistently upheld to established standards
  • Adapt communication style in order to deliver information effectively to a range of individuals
  • Always maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to portray the company in a positive manner
  • Estimate or quote prices, terms, warranties, and delivery dates
  • Take orders from customers and prepare products for purchase
  • Assist with display of merchandise
  • Assist with inventory management
  • Ensure accuracy in all transactions, inventory, and end of day procedures
  • Prepare merchandise for purchase
  • Work in partnership with management and other employees to maximize store sales and in-store presence
  • Ensure that all health, safety, and security regulations are adhered to and required standards are met
  • Prepare sales and accept cash, credit card, or automatic debit payment

Job Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • One year of experience in retail
  • Class 5 driver’s license
  • Proven sales ability with capability to meet and surpass targets and goals
  • Ability to analyse and interpret the needs of customers and offer the appropriate options, solutions, and resolutions required
  • Ability to promote products and persuade customers
  • Strong knowledge of retail sales principles, methods, practices, and techniques
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to prioritize and manage conflicting demands
  • Demonstrated time management skills
  • Ability to work individually as well as part of a team
  • High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse environment
  • High level of integrity and work ethic

Work Conditions

  • Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions
