Job Description

The Seasonal Retail Salesperson, under the direction of the Garden Centre Manager, will primarily be responsible to greet customers and discuss type, quality, and quantity of merchandise or services required. This position will maintain a high level of product and service knowledge. This role will also replace stock, rotate current stock, and ensure satisfactory inventory levels. The Seasonal Retail Salesperson must possess a high school diploma, GED, or equivalent and preferably at least one year of retail or horticulture experience. Starting date in April for 6 to 8 weeks with possibility of extension, must be available to work weekends.

Job Duties

  • Greet customers and discuss type, quality, and quantity of merchandise or services required
  • Maintain a high level of product and service knowledge
  • Replace used stock, rotate current stock, and ensure satisfactory inventory levels
  • Participate in merchandising and promotional activities
  • Ensure store conditions are consistently upheld to established standards
  • Adapt communication style in order to deliver information effectively to a range of individuals
  • Always maintain professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to portray the company in a positive manner
  • Attempt to calm irate customers by explaining the situation while attempting to resolve the issue to the best of your abilities
  • Take phone orders from customers and prepare products for purchase
  • Ensure that customers are satisfied with the issue resolution as well as the resolution process itself
  • Assist with display of merchandise
  • Assist with inventory management
  • Ensure accuracy in all transactions, inventory, and procedures
  • Participate in all manner of store maintenance
  • Work in partnership with management and other employees to maximize store sales and in-store presence
  • Answer phone calls and emails
  • Ensure that all health, safety, and security regulations are adhered to and required standards are met
  • Prepare sales and accept cash, credit card, or automatic debit payment

Work Conditions

  • Extended periods of standing, and other physically demanding conditions
  • Lifting, moving, or manipulating objects up to 23 kilograms

  • Operation of desktop computer and peripherals
  • Ability to work in a hot environment, up to 40 C
  • Physically able to wear a cloth or medical mask and other PPE as required

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Temporary

Salary: From $16.00 per hour
