The Lower Kootenay Band Chief, Council and staff are working collaboratively to prepare for the challenges the COVID-19 virus may bring over the next number of months to the community. We want to reassure those living off-reserve that you are not forgotten and it is our goal to help every Lower Kootenay Band member during this time.

For those members that live on reserve and in the larger Creston Valley, our focus will be providing food care hampers on a regular basis. We are currently purchasing non-perishable food and will also distribute meat / game. As resources allow, family groups will also receive gift cards for the purchase of groceries.

For those members that live off reserve and outside of the Creston Valley (but reside within Canada), a Walmart or President’s Choice gift card of $100 will be made available to you.

For those members that live in the US, a gift certificate with a value equivalent to $100 CDN will be made available to you.

We require everyone who lives outside of the reserve or the Creston Valley to contact Chantelle at the   Lower Kootenay Band office  250- 428 – 4428 or reception@lowerkootenay.com to arrange for the delivery of the gift card.

As leadership, we take our responsibilities seriously and as such must plan for an ordeal that lasts a number of months. We do not want to use up all of our resources immediately, as no one knows the ultimate impact that this outbreak will have on our membership. As time goes on, it is expected that Chief, Council and staff will have to re-assess the needs of all its members and make decisions as to how to best service those needs.

As a final note, we would ask anyone who does not financially need their food hampers and/or gift cards to think of donating to someone in your family or community that does need the assistance. We at the Band Office would be happy to facilitate that gifting between members of the community.

We are all in this together.
