Location: 810 Mallory Road
On March 6th, 2023 Lower Kootenay Band started the groundwork at 810 Mallory Road, for the 4 new energy-efficient small homes. LKB has been working closely with the Ktunaxa Nation Archaeology Coordinator, before and during excavation. The 4 small homes will be two units with 2 bedrooms, and two units with 1 bedroom. They will be level entry (no basement), mini split heat pumps as the primary heat source, energy star windows, metal roof, and fiber cement siding (non-combustible, moisture and rot resistant.) Having a diverse supply of housing is important, to suit the evolving needs of LKB homes for families, couples, Elders, single, parent and child.
The small homes are being built by King Creek Ent. who is working with an Energy Advisor to reach step code 5. This means the small homes will be net-zero-ready! Lower Kootenay Band maintenance crew has completed all of the initial groundwork, installing waterlines, conduits for the sewer and electrical, driveway, and prep work for the house footings.
Lower Kootenay Band would like to thank the Funding Partners on this project, Indigenous Services Canada; Columbia Basin Trust; Fortis BC; and BC Housing.
